Molly found some great eats for small fry at www.parenting.com/article/5-healthier-fast-food-choices-for-kids, starting with Au Bon Pain, where you can order a medium strawberry smoothie that at 310 calories, is nearly fat-free sip and contains 3 grams of fiber, 100 milligrams of calcium, and a good amount of vitamin C.
Burger King has a hamburger with 1% low-fat chocolate milk and BK Fresh Apple Fries with caramel sauce, which gives your kiddo 3 grams of fiber. It is a trade-off for the 540 calories and 6 grams of saturated fat.
Chick-fil-A’s chargrilled chicken sandwich with honey-roasted BBQ sauce, plus a large fruit cup has 420 calories, 8 grams of fat, and 1.5 grams of saturated fat and delivers 10 grams of fiber, some calcium, and vitamin A. It also provides all of a kid’s daily C needs.
McDonald’s four-piece Chicken McNuggets with BBQ sauce, served with a fruit-and-yogurt parfait provides 390 calories and 14 grams of fat (just 3 grams of which are saturated) and 18 percent of daily calcium and some vitamin C.
Subway’s mini-turkey and cheddar on wheat with mustard, lettuce and tomato and raisins has 390 calories, 8 grams of fat, and 4 grams of saturated fat, kids get 5 grams of fiber and 140 milligrams of calcium.

This site says that for McDonald’s, the best choice is “four-piece white meat nuggets, apple slices, low-fat strawberry yogurt, and apple juice will put your child’s meal at a reasonable 335 calories and 12.5 grams of fat. The cheeseburger Happy Meal with a side of yogurt and a chocolate milk has 580 calories and 16.5 grams of fat.
At Wendy’s, standard Kids Meal with a cheeseburger, fries, and signature Frostie contains 710 calories and 29 grams of fat. A Kids Meal consisting of chicken nuggets, apple slices, and water has only 220 calories and 12 grams of fat.
A KFC Li’l Bucket, with four Original Recipe chicken bites, a side of green beans, a side of apple sauce, and a Capri sun to drink has 245 calories and 6 grams of fat. Add mashed potatoes instead of green beans for 310 calories and 9 grams of fat. Compare to a Chicken Little Sandwich, macaroni, applesauce, and 2 percent milk, which totals out at 650 calories and 26 grams of fat.
At Burger King try a four-piece chicken nugget BK Meal with apple slices and Capri Sun for 300 calories and 11 grams of fat. The cheeseburger BK Meal with Satisfries and chocolate milk has 620 calories and 22.5 grams of fat.
An Arby’s Jr. Roast Beef Sandwich with apple sauce and a Capri Sun fruit juice has 350 calories and 8 total grams of fat. The Prime Cut Chicken Tenders with a side of curly fries and a chocolate milk comes in at 620 calories and a whopping 26.5 grams of fat.
