You know how when the shimmer on your throat starts to slide to points south, and you’re without anything respectable with which to wipe that shimmer before it becomes a puddle? Well, we can’t help you with that, but we can steer you to some slushy cocktails that might keep you from reaching that melting point to begin with.
So here are five really wonderful ways to beat the city heat, found at http://www.winemag.com/Web-2014/Five-Spiked-Slushies/. The Coconut Banana Push Pop is spectacularly killer and reminds us of midway stuff. Twist and Shout with bacon? Dang it!! Yes!! The Pink Bubble Float is pretty pretty pretty.
Huffpo tells us what we already know, that the “best thing about boozy slushies is that they give us an excuse to drink our favorite frozen drink, the slushy. Plus, the buzz.” Not rocket science.
But here’s where it gets very cool: “You could just spike your 7-Eleven slushy, or find an alcoholic slushy maker taking orders off of Instagram, but we think you’ll be way better off making your own — despite the extra work.” The recipe is at http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2011/09/drinking-in-season-sake-melon-slush-boozy-granita-recipe.html and right here as well.
Sake Melon Slush
2 c ripe cantaloupe or other melon, cut into 1-inch chunks
1-inch piece of ginger, finely chopped
1 oz lime juice
1 oz honey
2 oz sake
Put all ingredients in a blender and blend for 30 seconds, until all ingredients are evenly blended and smooth.
Pour the mixture into a 9″x9″ metal pan. Place in freezer until solid.
Just before you’re ready to serve, scrape with a fork until light and fluffy.
Serve in martini or small glasses.
