One thing we have always seen on the table is the cranberry sauce to accompany the turkey. Well for me, I was always freaked out about the jelly that was still in the shape of a can, ugh? It was not until I tried homemade fresh cranberry sauce, did I realize what I had been missing. Not only was the consistency far better, it was made with ingredients I knew, organic ingredients. From that moment on, I have advocated the next recipe at every Thanksgiving meal.
DIY Organic Cranberry Sauce
12 oz organic cranberries
1 cup organic orange juice
1 cup organic sugar or Stevia equivalent
In a medium sized saucepan over medium heat, dissolve the sugar in the orange juice.
Once the sugar is dissolved, stir in the cranberries and cook until the cranberries start to pop (about 10 minutes).
Remove from heat and place sauce in a bowl. Cranberry sauce will thicken as it cools.
For best results, make cranberry sauce the night before and place in refrigerator after it cools.
Stir cranberry sauce in bowl and serve.
Recipe makes 8-12 servings.
If you do not want to hassle with it, there a number of good organic sauces out there, I found that Whole Foods and stores like that have the best offerings, just watch out for the sugar content.
